I was at Elgood House today in Bell Street, Marylebone, with folks from the Marylebone Project – the largest shelter for homeless women in London. The women were celebrating Thanksgiving because the American Intercontinental University teamed up with the Church Army to cook the tradional American dinner for everyone at Elgood House. Supermodel Caprice Bourret was there too:

I enjoyed your piece and thought you did a fabulous job of capturing the story, great Job! It was wonderful to be a part of the day and to get to share in the experience.
I was also present at the dinner & found it an a demeaning publicity scam for the benefit of Caprice's image at the cost of what little dignity we have left . There was a lot of press & spectators present that it felt like more like a panto than an actual good deed dinner for the less fortunate. Caprice did NOT serve the dinner it was a mixture of AIU & Church Army staff, it was only when a voice shouted; "lets get a few pictures of her serving!!" That she took part (& not for long either). Although I am very grateful for the AIU London who organised & provided the meal for us & did so in a warm & friendly manner, I'm saddened to say that the stars attitude did not reflect that. At one point a slightly older lady sitting to my right had asked Caprice for more gravy with Caprice's reaction being "Gravy?! Gravy?! I got you! you're good now! You got gravy!" She bellowed it in such a boisterous manner, loud enough for the benefit for the press. The poor lady beside me shrank a little in her seat at her out burst & looked down abashed. That's just one example. What people forget is that these "now" homeless women weren't always so. Some were made homeless through circumstance be it fleeing domestic violence, addiction problems or mental breakdowns. What ever the case maybe we are just trying to deal with the cards we were dealt & are trying to get our lives back on track. So thank you Caprice, thank you for making me feel more uncomfortable & embarrassed & insignificant at my situation than I already do. God Bless.
